On Saturday, the Edmonson County 5/6 Center academic team competed in the Governor's Cup District 38 Tournament at Caverna Elementary School where the team found success, winning the quick recall district championship. Edmonson County defeated Caverna 21-6 and North Jackson 15-12 to advance to the finals of the double elimination district tournament. For the second time, Edmonson would have to play a very tough team from North Jackson Elementary school.
The finals saw both teams exchange runs throughout the game. Edmonson lead 11-4 at halftime, but saw North Jackson make a big comeback in the second half to tie the game and send it to overtime. The overtime was extremely competitive and the Wildcats came out on top by a score of 19-17. "We are extremely proud of these kids," said Head Coach Nick Skaggs. "Every player contributed to the team's success today. This championship was a complete team effort." Edmonson County also had three students advance to the regional tournament in written assessment. Brayden Johnson won the math championship, Ace Daugherty finished second in math, and Noah Smith placed fourth in science. The team will compete in the regional tournament on March 3rd at Austin Tracy Elementary School.
