Edmonson Voice Staff
A familiar Brownsville face will no longer be seen around town as James Weldon "Gordy" Houchin died last night at his home. Mr. Houchin, or just simply "Gordy" as he was known, had a number of health problems that eventually caught up with him. Gordy was seen regularly on the streets of Brownsville, at a number of local businesses, or stopped somewhere having a friendly conversation with someone. We normally don't elaborate on obituaries, but we felt it was fitting to further mention Gordy, as he was a popular, eclectic figure who was kind to all. You can read his full obituary here.

So glad you share your thought on people, that is all we leave behind, is the good thing we have done out of the kindness of our heart.

How sad, I remember Gordy when I was growing up ,and when I worked at the Minit Mart. I gave him lots of hot coffee and an occasional sandwich. He was a very sweet soul. He was very polite and never bothered anyone. He will be missed :(

I would see Gordy a lot when I worked at Bertie's years ago. Always nice and very well mannered. A kind soul.

Jimmy Barry and I will miss you very much. When we first moved here to Brownsville, you were the first person whom we got to know. We had a lot of fun times at our Senior Center. Jimmy you were a wonderful person. Pat and Barry Hunter
