Judge Executive Wil Cannon and Senior Food Pantry Coordinator Vickie Walker unveiled the newly constructed Senior Food Pantry, located inside the Brownsville Community Center. The county had rented a space in a nearby building for use of the pantry, but Judge Cannon said he felt like it needed to be located elsewhere on county property. He said the cost of the entire project was far less than a year's worth of rent in the former location. "We had lots of great help on this project," he said. "It was all done by volunteers and we sure appreciate them all." The area was built to resemble an old-time general storefront with plenty of room for food storage and an office space. Cannon performed much of the labor himself on the project and was joined by Todd Vincent, Vickie Walker, Anne Bullock, Bobby and Stacy Floyd, and members of the Great Onyx Job Corps carpentry division. Josh McCrady of Wall To Wall Design Center and R&J Builders also donated floor covering used inside the structure. The facility is up and running, but Cannon said they plan on having an official grand opening celebration soon.

Correction: The new food pantry is part of two food pantries the Senior Food pantry and the other half is Food from the Heart which is coordinated by Terri vincent. It is two food pantries not one. Thanks.
