by Terry Watts:
It is the middle of August and patience is the best bait to use on the lake. Water temps are in the high 80's and the lake is near pool. Bass are taking jigs and plastics fished along deep banks and flats near deep water. The night bite has been best. There appears to be about a 2 hour window in which fishing is best. Crappie are on deep brush along mud banks. A few walleye have been caught trolling crankbaits early and late. Overcast, windy and rainy days have been good for walleye. White bass are scattered and trolling near schools of bait is most productive. It is important to key on the 12 to 18 foot depth this time of year. Again, it's not all about catching or the size of your catch. It's all about making memories on the lake. Wear your PFD and take the family fishing.
