Grand Opening Scheduled for Saturday, June 22, 2024 Madison Doyle, story: Many locals who grew up in the 80s and before remember the old Mohawk Motel, and most all of them would attest that today's version is a much more refreshing and inviting facility than that of the old days. What may have been an inviting place for lodging decades ago turned into something much less for a number of years. Not much happened to the facility for a long period of time until some renovations over the last decade brought positive change. The newest owners, Bill and Angie Miller, have arguably brought the most impactful change to the building in most recent times, as the facility currently houses new retail businesses, vacation rentals, and space for more. The Millers purchased the property in January of 2023 and immediately began renovations to both the interior and exterior to offer what they described as "cozy boutique settings for shops and offices on the ground floor." Second floor space is reserved for vacation rentals, decorated in various Kentucky themes, for out of towners visiting the area. An eye-catching mural was added to the end of the building facing Main Street a few months ago from Wolf and Bell, who was commissioned by the Millers for the artwork. The Millers described it as "a welcoming mural on the end of the building to welcome guests and for locals to enjoy." The Edmonson County Chamber welcomed three new businesses with ribbon cuttings on March 2, 2024, which included Little Dumplin's Boutique, The Hive Hair & Company, and Body & Mind Massage Studio, but the Millers have planned a huge grand opening celebration for the entire facility on Saturday, June 22nd from 11AM to 4PM, which will include a Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting at 12 noon. The Millers have activities planned for all ages that included food trucks, a host of various vendors, and children's activities. "The grand opening will allow us to help our lovely tenants invite people to come in and see the services they have to offer and the beautiful way they have each customized their spaces to offer services to locals," said Angie. "We also look forward to meeting more people in the community and hosting other fun vendors to introduce you to their talents with everything from baked goods, jewelry, food, customized items and more." Chamber President Darren Doyle said this is a boost for economic development in the area. "We hear people using the term 'economic development' often and complain that there is not enough here. The fact is, the best way for the economy in Edmonson County to be better developed is for business owners to create opportunities by doing just what the Millers have done. This is a great idea and we welcome the Millers and the Mohawk Center to the Chamber. We hope that this inspires more entrepreneurs to seek out these opportunities and we're here to help any way we can," Doyle said. The event will take place at the Mohawk Center in the parking lot, located at the corner of Mohawk and Main Street in Brownsville. The Edmonson Voice is a proud media partner of the Edmonson County Chamber of Commerce.
