Dennie Hardin, a Warren County Attorney, has released a statement regarding his campaign for the 8th Judicial Circuit that will include Edmonson and Warren Counties, beginning in January. His full statement is published below: First off, the General Assembly recently enacted House Bill 214, which reorganizes certain judicial districts over the Commonwealth. Starting in January, Edmonson County will be in the 8th Judicial Circuit with Warren County. What that means is the folks of Edmonson County are going to have a new Commonwealth’s Attorney and a host of new judges. The legislation has no effect on your county attorney, judge executive, or magistrates. The new bill also creates an open seat for a new circuit judgeship. It is this position for which I have filed to run. What I bring as a judicial candidate is a unique background nobody else has. First, I am an experienced trial attorney with over 130 criminal and civil trials during my career, many of which occurred in Brownsville. Second, I am a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, having served for four years on active duty. Finally, I was a city police officer for several years after getting out of the military. As a judge, I hope to address underlying substance-abuse and mental-health issues in criminal defendants, to the extent possible, with treatment-based sentencing alternatives. -Dennie Hardin
