Lady Cat All-Time Leading Scorer Tops List In Region 3 Darren Doyle, story and photo:
Edmonson County Lady Cat senior Caitlin Simon has been named a finalist for 2018 Miss Kentucky Basketball, by the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation, who organizes the annual award. Each region in Kentucky has one finalist each year and Simon was chosen from Region 3. "To be honest, I had no idea I'd even be in the running for Miss Kentucky Basketball, but it's huge honor to be a finalist," she said. Simon is the Lady Cats' all-time scoring leader with 2,460 career points as of February 16, 2018. That amount will increase with each additional point she scores until season's end. She currently averages 22.4 points (ranked #13 in state) and 5 rebounds per game. She is shooting 82% from the free throw line for the season (ranked #11 in state). While she has received offers from at least two different schools, Simon has said that she currently has no plans of playing college basketball once she graduates. "I've decided that after high school, I'm just going to focus on my academics instead," she told the Edmonson Voice. Coach Kevin Jackson said that Simon was very deserving of the honor. "I'm very proud that Caitlin is being recognized as one of the best seniors in the state of Kentucky," he said. The Lady Cats are scheduled to play their final regular season game tonight at Greenwood. Tip off is at 6pm. You can listen to the broadcast stream live with the WildcatsLive crew.
