The Edmonson County Wildcat Football team closed out the 2016 last night at Wildcat Stadium with a 39-20 win over Barren County in front of a great crowd as eight seniors played their last football game as Wildcats.

The Wildcats scored first on an 84-yard touchdown run by senior Daniel Caudill in the second quarter and the extra point by Brett Brannon gave them an early 7-0 lead. Barren County answered with a 50-yard touchdown reception and a two-point conversion, taking an 8-7 lead.

It was Caudill again with a touchdown run but Barren County blocked the extra point attempt and EC led 13-8 going into the half.

Barren took their first lead in the third quarter on an interception and touchdown but missed the extra point as they led 14-13.

Caudill wasn't finished as he would score two more touchdowns in the third and the Wildcats took at 27-14 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Senior Rheece Berkley got in on the action when he made a great catch in the end zone for his first touchdown of the night, giving EC a 33-14 lead with just under nine minutes to go.

Daniel Caudill scored his final touchdown as an Edmonson County Wildcat with under three minutes left as Edmonson County led 33-14. Barren would score again, but it wouldn't be enough as the Wildcats went on to win 39-20.
Coach Nathan Smith reflected back on the 2016 season.

"There's a great group of people I'm around that have helped me a ton," he said. "We've got great boosters, they've helped so much. This group of seniors we have, I couldn't have been more blessed to have any better group of kids around me. The whole group of kids that we have right now, we did not have one discipline problem throughout the entire season. Not one problem since I got the job back at Christmas. When you have a group of 50 high school boys, you're thinking that one of them is going to mess up every now and then, but these are just great kids. I inherited a great football team and everybody in this community should be really proud of them. The season didn't turn out as good as we wanted, we're 4-6 on the year. We lost 5 of those by one touchdown. We were banged up all year long...but we have a great group of kids and hopefully this win right here will help us into the off-season. Not many teams get to end their season on a win. It was a learning curve for me and our coaches, but we're going to work at it, we're going to get better, we're going to keep our hands in the dirt, that's all we can do."

Senior Daniel Caudill finished the season with a total of 31 touchdowns this season for the Wildcats. He was ranked number one in the state in total points scored.

The Wildcat seniors were Rheece Berkley, Hunter Garrett, Daniel Caudill, Jordan Ainsworth, Jack Rich, Dylan Waldrop, Sawyer Spainhoward, and Jarred Coy.

The 2016 season for Lady Cat volleyball came to an end last night at the Region 3 Tournament held at Butler County High School, as Edmonson County fell to Meade County in three sets, (25-23, 25-7, 25-22).

The Lady Cats were labeled as underdogs going into the game, even though they'd compiled a better season record and were ranked number two in the region, ahead of Meade who was ranked number three. Meade County had beaten better teams throughout the season and had faced a much tougher schedule.

Edmonson County got things off to a great start and kept a one or two point advantage over the Lady Waves throughout the biggest part of the set. The Lady Cats were able to finish at the net and took advantage of some of Meade's miscues. EC was able to stretch their lead to 20-16, but the Lady Waves were able to put together a 9-3 run to finish with a first set win, 25-23.

Things changed drastically in the second set for the Lady Cats as Meade County jumped out to a 17-2 lead and the Lady Waves never looked back, dominating Edmonson County 25-7 and taking a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Cat 2016 season hung by a thread as they limped into the third set, but they were able to shake off the previous beat down and jumped out to an early lead. It was a tooth-and-nail fight to the finish and Edmonson County put together a short run to take a 20-17 lead, forcing a Lady Waves timeout.

Meade County reset during the break and came out with an impressive 5-0 run against the Lady Cats to take a 22-20 lead. The Lady Cats couldn't overcome the momentum shift to Meade and fell in set three, 25-22.
Picture
Coach Haley Garmon instructs her Lady Cats during a timeout.
Coach Haley Garmon said although the night and the season ended with a loss, she is very proud of her team and says they certainly have no reasons to hang their heads.

"I knew we would be successful. Yes, we wanted to keep going, but we had a great season and we set some records. I told them all I was proud of them and we're already looking towards next year."

The Lady Cats finish with a 24-11 record. It was the final game for Senior Lady Cat Dina Hollis.

"With her being the lone senior, she stood out and led this team, but she didn't make it all about her, it was all about the team."

WildcatsLive will be back this Friday night with Scott and Bryan as the ECHS football team will take on the Barren County Trojans at Wildcat Stadium for 2016 senior night. It will be the final football game of the season. Senior night festivities are scheduled to begin just before the 7pm kickoff start time.

Junior Caitlin Simon goes for the kill against Trinity.
Edmonson Voice Sports Staff
story and photos

You know you're going to get your money's worth when you watch an Edmonson County vs. Trinity volleyball game, so when the stakes are high and the emotions are racing, as they were in last night's District 12 Championship Final, you'd better buckle up.

A repeat of the last several years, the Lady Cats faced Whitesville-Trinity in Butler County for last night's final and as you'd expect, it took all five sets of gut-wrenching, 110%, leave-it-all-on-the-floor volleyball, but Trinity eventually came out on top, defeating the Lady Cats 3-2, claiming their 6th title in a row.

Edmonson County got off to a sluggish start in set one, allowing Trinity to rack up a couple of 4-0 runs that would be the difference for a 25-14 win.

The Lady Cats adjusted during the second set and were able to fight off the hard-hitting kills from Trinity. The score never became more than a two-point differential, and Edmonson County bounced back with a win, 25-23.
Picture
Edmonson County seemed poised for a set three win, getting things started with blistering 9-1 lead, but an amazing 14-2 run by Trinity quickly shifted the momentum, forcing the Lady Cats on their heels. Trinity went on another run of 8-3 and extended their lead to 23-15. The Lady Cats pushed back with a run of their own, but Trinity remained in control and won 25-21, gaining a 2-1 game lead.

Set four stayed neck and neck the entire route as each team kept throwing punch after punch against the other, diving out of bounds, into the stands, and laying it on the line. Coming off an errant Lady Cat serve, Trinity had the Lady Cats on their final ropes at Trinty's game point at 24-22, but a bad return from the Lady Raiders landed the ball on their side of the net and a point for Edmonson County. Trinity still had game point at 24-23.

After an EC serve from Shasta Smith, Trinity bounced it around and back over but Mikayla Lindsey was right at the net and was able to swat it just out of reach from the Lady Raiders for the 24-24 tie.

Trinity was set for the kill on the next play, but in a split second, Edmonson slammed the ball on a fantastic block, Trinity smacked it back hard at the net, but Mikayla Lindsey stuffed it over as it bounced on Trinity's side for the Lady Cat 25-24 lead. Trinity had to call timeout to reset as the Edmonson County fans exploded to their feet.

Emma Woodcock dug out the next Trinity ball but it bounced out of bounds in spite of her amazing effort and Trinity had tied it at 25 all. An illegal hit from the Lady Raiders gave the Lady Cats the lead at 26-25.

Trinity came right back with a kill for a 26-26 tie. The next Trinity serve was passed by Shasta Smith, set by Sierra Kenney, and smashed by Megan Dockery, despite getting blocked by Trinity. Dockery was able to recover and send the blocked ball sailing on Trinity's side as the Lady Cats regained the lead at 27-26, preparing for game point. Trinity batted Dina Hollis' serve out of bounds and the Lady Cats stayed alive with a 28-26 set win, tying the game at 2-2 and forcing set five.

Unfortunately for the Lady Cats, Trinity was in control of set five from the very beginning, and whatever magic the Lady Cats had mustered up in set four seemed to be gone as Trinity went on to win the set 15-6, the game, 3-2, and the District 12 Title for the sixth year in a row.

Head Coach Haley Garmon was still very positive after the game.

"Yes, we lost this, but we've still got next week, we've got region, and we're ranked number two," she said. "We played a little lazy toward the end. We've got to come out strong in the beginning, but we've got to finish strong, too."

Garmon said her team has no reason to be down in spite of the loss, and that while many doubters expected the team to struggle, the Lady Cats have accomplished much of what Garmon has expected all year long.

"This is exactly where I'd thought we'd be," she said. "Of course, you want to win this game here, but what we've done, the 24 sets in a row, the winning record? You know, I was told well, you've lost your whole team, what are you going to do? Well, last year I saw what I would have this year, and you see potential in girls. You know what girls are coach-able, and ones that will do whatever you tell them to make them better. But I'm giving them all the credit. When you tell them to do something, whether or not they think it's stupid, they do it. All the credit goes to them. They'll keep working hard and we'll be alright."

The draw for the Region 3 Tournament will be held on Saturday where the Lady Cats will learn their first round opponent and game time.

The WildcatsLive broadcast team carried the first ever live volleyball broadcast to a huge listening audience. They will carry all Lady Cat games in the Regional Tournament, which will be held at Butler County High School next week.

The Lady Cats had no trouble with Butler County last night in the first round of the District 12 Tournament, hosted by Butler County as they won and advanced to the district final game.

Edmonson County stayed in control from the first set all the way to the end, sweeping the Lady Bears in three sets, ending their season.

The Lady Cats took set one with a score of 25-7, set two 25-13, and the final set, 25-9.

They will face Whitesville-Trinity in the finals for the third straight year as the Lady Raiders swept Grayson County in three sets last night.

Edmonson County also extended their winning streak to 12 straight games and are now 24-9 on the season. Last night's victory locks their place in the Region 3 Tournament that will also be held at Butler County next week.

The district championship game is scheduled to start at 6pm, Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Butler County High School. The game will be broadcast live on WildcatsLive for the very first volleyball broadcast in school history. Pre-game show is scheduled to begin at 5:45pm.

Lady Cat Volleyball Begin District Tournament Play Tonight, Looking For 8th Consecutive Trip To Finals

10/18/2016

Picture
The Edmonson County Lady Cats finished their regular season last Thursday with a win against Allen County in three sets. It marked the first time that the Lady Cats had lost a set since the All A State Classic on September 17, 2016. Even though the consecutive set winning streak ended at an amazing 24 sets, they were still able to extend their overall winning streak to 11 games in a row.

The District 12 Tournament is scheduled to begin tonight at Butler County where the Lady Cats will take on the struggling Lady Bears in the first round beginning at 6pm. A win against the 1-21 Butler County team will move Edmonson County into the district finals for the 8th straight year. The Lady Cats have not taken home the district title since 2011, which marked the third year in a row EC claimed a district title, dating back to 2009.

First year head coach Haley Garmon said that the team had a good practice yesterday and seem to be ready for tonight's game.

"They are eager to play," said Garmon. "They know that they have what it takes, but it will take everything they've got."

The team is encouraging Edmonson County fans to make the trip to Morgantown tonight to cheer on the Lady Cats. If the girls advance tonight, WildcatsLive will broadcast the championship game live on Thursday, thanks to an extended agreement with Edmonson County High School. It will make the first time in school's history that an ECHS volleyball game will be included in a live, play-by-play broadcast.

The Lady Cats hold the number one seed in District 12 and are currently ranked number two in Region 3 with an overall record of 23-9.

Coach Garmon's coaching success is similar to that which her older sister, Shannon Gibson Lowe enjoyed, as Shannon helped coach the 2007 team to the school's first district title with a record of 30-7 on the season and set a school record for the most consecutive wins at 16 games in a row. Lowe was part of the Lady Cat coaching staff in the '06 and '07 seasons.

The 1996 Edmonson County Wildcat Football Regional Champions were recognized Friday night, October 14, 2016 as team members, cheerleaders, and coaches from the former team took the field during halftime ceremonies of the Edmonson-LaRue County football game.

Former Coach Rick Wood was presented a plaque as he was honored as the newest member of the Wildcat Wall of Fame. Edmonson County was Wood's first head coaching job when he took over in 1993. He served as head coach for 6 years, leading the '96 team to the regional title. The Wildcats had a 46-24 record under Wood.

Wood left Edmonson County to return to Warren Central in 1999, the first high school where he helped coach. He led the Dragons to a regional title in 2003, just before coming back to Edmonson County in 2004 to serve as Athletic Director through 2009. He left Edmonson County again to accept the head coaching job at Glasgow where he remained until his retirement in 2014. He led the Scotties to a state runner-up finish in 2011. He was inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame earlier in June of this year. He amassed a 142-63 record (.692) over his head coaching career.

Wildcats Can't Pull Away From LaRue, Fall 35-28

Picture
Darren Doyle, story and photos
The Wildcats fell to the LaRue County Hawks last night at Wildcat Stadium 35-28 in the final district game of the year, ending playoff hopes for Edmonson County for this season.

EC struck first as the first quarter came to a close with Daniel Caudill scoring on an 18 yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was blocked but the Wildcats took a 6-0 lead.

A strong passing game from the Hawks was quickly introduced as only 9 seconds later, the LaRue County quarterback connected with a receiver on a 53 yard pass for a touchdown. The extra point gave the Hawks the lead at 7-6.

Halfway through the second, LaRue extended their lead to 14-6 with a 20 yard touchdown run and an extra point but Wildcat Daniel Caudill helped push the ball up the field and scored on an 8 yard run. Edmonson County attempted a two-point conversion but was stopped at 14-12, which would be the halftime score.
On the first play after the Wildcat's kickoff return in the third, Caudill helped shift the momentum back to the Wildcats when he rocketed through the line on a 70 yard touchdown run and converted the two extra points, regaining the lead at 20-14.

LaRue County made some adjustments to the Wildcat defense at the half and bounced back with two touchdowns and extra points, climbing back on top 28-20 with just over 3 minutes to go in the third.

A scary moment came to the Wildcats with the third quarter coming to a close as Daniel Caudill attempted to catch a short Tucker Cole pass and was blind-sided full force by a LaRue County player. Caudill took a direct hit to the gut and was shaken up as he sat out the next few plays to gather himself.

A banged-up Brayden Carey entered the game in the fourth as he connected with a great 8 yard touchdown catch, actually with his feet, as he fell to the ground in the end zone with 9:42 left in the fourth. A two point conversion from Caudill tied the game at 28-28.

With 4:41 left in the game, the LaRue quarterback looked as if he was going to be sacked, but somehow scrambled away by his shirt tail and scored on a 7 yard touchdown keeper. The extra point made it 35-28 and the Wildcats were unable to recover as they fell to LaRue County.

"My heart's hurting pretty bad for our seniors, because they really wanted it," said Wildcat Coach Nathan Smith. "All of our kids wanted it. I don't think effort was ever a question tonight. LaRue County just had some really good athletes. Hopefully we'll use this as a learning moment for us. I told them (the team) in there that I'm sure I'll be able to look back at the end of the season and see maybe a thousand times where I messed up. You know, just called something bad or made a wrong decision. I know I'm going to use this season to learn and try to get better. I just talked to our underclassmen and told them to love on our seniors because they're going to be down, they're going to be heart broken, but to use it as a lesson."

The game was a must-win for the Wildcats in order for them to be able to compete in the playoffs which obviously didn't happen. The final game for the 2016 team will be against Barren County at home on Friday, October 28 for Wildcat Senior Night. The Wildcats will be off next Friday, October 22, with no game.

The Wildcats are now 3-6 on the year and finish District 2 play with a record of 1-3.

Lady Cats Celebrate 10 In A Row On Senior Night, Dig Pink Cancer Benefit Game

It was a big night for the Lady Cats Tuesday, October 11, 2016 as they celebrated senior night, Dig Pink Cancer Benefit, and their 10th win in a row against Hart County.

The evening began by honoring Lady Cat Senior Dina Hollis, as she was presented a medallion for her six years of Edmonson County volleyball. She was recognized with her parents, Jay and April Hollis of Pig at center court.

Just before the starting lineups were announced, each Lady Cat was recognized for whom they were dedicating their game, either in memory or in honor of someone affected by cancer. A portion of the gate and concessions along with a benefit silent auction was donated to a local family that is currently battling a second round of cancer. The Lady Cats raised almost a total of $2,000 during the event.

Edmonson County jumped out to a 5-0 start, forcing Hart County to use their first timeout. A quick bounce-back from the Lady Raiders rattled the Lady Cats and EC called timeout to gather themselves.

Edmonson County kept control of the game as Hart County was forced to take their final timeout with a Lady Cat lead of 19-13. The Lady Raiders took advantage of some errant serves and mental mistakes to cut the lead to 23-22, but Edmonson County wouldn't allow any more as they finished 25-22.

The second set was even closer and the 22 consecutive set winning streak was threatened for the first time in weeks. The Lady Cats began things with a 3-0 lead, but Hart County bounced back to tie things up at 5-5 and took the lead on the next point, forcing the Lady Cats into a timeout at 6-5. It also marked the first deficit for Edmonson County since September 17 in the All A Classic.

The Lady Raiders once again had EC out of sorts and jumped out to a 10-5 lead. Edmonson County showed toughness and came back with a strong run of their own, tying the score at 10-10 and forcing a Hart County timeout.

A strong 7-2 run would end up making the difference as Hart County took their final timeout, trailing 17-12. The Lady Raiders fought back and scrapped their way back to a one point game with the Lady Cats leading 24-23, but a great set by Junior Shasta Smith was smashed by Junior Megan Dockery as she killed the ball over the net, giving the Lady Cats their 10th consecutive win along with 23 straight sets.

"Well, I was worried there for a bit, but obviously the outcome was what we wanted," said Head Coach Haley Garmon. "It was good for our girls to be put to the test tonight with the district tournament coming up."

The Lady Cats will be the number one seed in the District 12 Championship held next week at Butler County. They will face #4 seed Butler County on Tuesday, October 18, who has struggled this year with a record of 1-21. First serve is scheduled for 6pm.

A win will place Edmonson County in the championship game for the third year in a row where they will face the winner of Grayson County and Whitesville Trinity, two teams that match up well with the Lady Cats.

If the Lady Cats reach the district finals, the game will be broadcast live on WildcatsLive for the first live volleyball broadcast in school history.

"All of the things that the girls don't like, well, we're going to be working on them in practice on Wednesday," Garmon said, smiling.

The Lady Cats improved to 22-9 on the year. They are currently ranked number two in Region 3 and are 6-1 in district play. They will finish the regular season Thursday night on the road against Allen County Scottsville.

The streak continued tonight for the Lady Cats as they dominated the Caverna Lady Colonels 2-0 (25-5, 25-7) in their ninth straight win, tying last year's team winning streak.

With each victory being a sweep, it also means that the Lady Cats have won 21 consecutive sets, a school record. The school record for the most consecutive game wins was set by the 2007 District Champion Lady Cats with 16 in a row.

Edmonson County jumped off to a 5-0 start during the first set, prompting a Caverna timeout. The Lady Cats kept their foot on the gas, forcing another Caverna timeout at 13-0. EC rattled off four more before giving up Caverna's first point at 17-1.  The girls cruised to an easy 25-5 first set win.

The second set was the same song, second verse as EC poured out a 13-0 start and never looked back. Coach Haley Garmon took advantage of the opportunity to use the entire bench, giving some reserve players some good varsity experience. The Lady Cats finished the second set on top, 25-7 and the game 2-0.

They will try for their 10th straight on Tuesday night at the annual "Dig Pink" Cancer Benefit game against Hart County (12-9). A portion of the proceeds will benefit a local family affected by cancer. A silent auction will also be held. Game is scheduled to begin at 5pm.

Edmonson Voice Sports
Wildcat turnovers and miscues were the key factors in Edmonson County's 30-26 loss to district rival Hart County last night in Munfordville.

"Hart County had the ball the whole fourth quarter because we turned it over twice," said senior running back Daniel Caudill. "It seemed like every time we'd break a big run or make a stop on defense, there would be a flag on us. We have to be more disciplined."

The Wildcats were able to get points on the board early as Rheece Berkley scored on an 11 yard reception pass from QB Tucker Cole. The extra point from Brett Brannon gave Edmonson County a 7-0 lead with four minutes to go in the first.

After a great Wildcat run with a couple of big gains from Daniel Caudill in the second, Caudill scored on a one yard, 4th and goal touchdown with just over three minutes left in the half. The extra point was no good as the Wildcats took a 13-0 lead.

Hart County answered with a good run of their own, with the help of some Wildcat penalties for a touchdown and two point conversion, cutting the EC lead to 13-8 at the half.

Midway through the third, it was Caudill again as the Wildcats scored a one yard touchdown and extra point, making it 20-8. Edmonson County gave themselves a huge advantage with Tucker Cole's 45 yard interception for a touchdown with just over four minutes left in the third quarter. The extra point was no good but the Wildcats extended the lead to 26-8.

On top of that, the Wildcats regained possession with an onside kick, but a Edmonson County fumble on the next play gave the ball right back to the Raiders. Hart County was able to turn it into a touchdown but no extra point with under three minutes to go in the third as the Wildcat lead was cut to 26-14.

A Raider run resulted in a touchdown and two-point conversion to cut the Wildcat lead to 26-22 with just over six minutes to go in the game.

On the next Hart County kickoff, the Wildcats had a huge 45-yard return from Marcus Elmore but a fumble and Raider recovery gave Hart County possession of the ball with 5:58 to go.

A good defensive stand from the Wildcats put Hart County in a tough position on 4th and 11 on the EC 23 yard line with under two minutes to go in the game, but a first down from the Raiders kept the game alive. The Raider run went all the way to the wire, thanks to tough Wildcat defense with 4th down and 2 with less than a minute left.

Edmonson County stopped the Raiders at the two yard line for what appeared to be a turnover on downs but a flag stopped the play. There was confusion on the field for a couple of minutes as the officials tried to sort things out while ejecting one Hart County coach in the process. The Wildcats tried once again to stop the Raiders on 4th and one, but the Raiders scored a touchdown for their first lead of the game with nine seconds left to go. A two-point conversion put the Raiders on top 30-26.

The Wildcats took possession of the ball at their own 42 yard line on a squib kick and Caudill caught the Tucker Cole pass on the next play, running out of bounds with two seconds left. Edmonson County looked to get creative as the last play of the game was a multi-pass, lateral play but ended with a tackle, along with the game.

"We have a huge district game next week with Larue County and if we win, we'll probably be a number two seed in the playoffs and get to host a playoff game," said Caudill. "If we lose, we don't make the playoffs and our season is over in two weeks. Our backs are against the wall, but I still believe in this team. We need all the support we can have Friday form our fans. It's definitely the biggest game of the season."

The Wildcats are now 3-5 on the season and fall to 1-2 in the district. They are scheduled to take on Larue County at Wildcat Stadium Friday, October 14 at 7PM.

In spite of losing two starters to injury last night and having five more out already, the Wildcats overcame their disadvantages as they defeated a highly favored and undefeated Adair County team 27-19 at Wildcat Stadium.

Led again by senior running back Daniel Caudill, who rushed for 300 yards on 31 carries, the Wildcats ran the ball well all night. Coach Nathan Smith said he told his players that he'd have to have eleven grown men on the field for this game, and that's what he got.

Caudill discussed the game plan going into the tough district match up.

"We said we we were going to play 'big boy football' and smack 'em right in the mouth, and that's what we did," said Caudill. "I have to give huge shouts to the offensive line. They came out and played hard. We had a couple of bad weeks, but they came back and they came back strong, and that's what it's all about. We've got a huge upset here, and that's what we need right now."

The Wildcats struck first with a one yard Caudill touchdown at 8:18 left in the first, thanks to an interception by Tucker Cole. The extra point by Brett Brannon made it 7-0. The lead didn't last long as only seconds later Adair answered with a 60 yard run of their own for a touchdown and extra point for the 7-7 tie.

Wildcats fans jumped to their feet halfway through the second quarter as sophomore running back Kenny Logsdon made a highlight film-play, mowing down an Adair County linebacker that attempted to take Logsdon out. After flattening the linebacker, Logsdon actually stepped on top of him on his way to a first down.

Caudill scored again with 4:45 left in the half as the extra point gave the Wildcats a 14-7 lead at halftime.

It was Caudill again in the third with about 4:20 left on a 45 yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was wide right, but Edmonson County's lead was extended to 20-7.

Adair wasn't going away any time soon and they scored on 10 yard pass to make things 20-13 with just 6 minutes left in the game, but the Wildcats were able to stop the two point conversion.

The Caudill Show continued as Daniel scored again on a 14 yard rushing touchdown. Brannon's extra point extended the lead to 27-13 with just over 2 minutes to go, however, Adair was still not ready to go home.

The Indians scored again on a 34 yard pass to cut the Wildcat lead to 27-19. Brett Brannon made a huge defensive play by picking off the Adair County pass in the two-point conversion attempt, making a comeback nearly impossible for the Indians.

The Wildcats sealed the deal with 55 seconds left in the game on 4th down and one as Caudill leaped over the entire Adair County offensive line for the first down. The Wildcats were able to snap the ball, take the knee, and run out the remaining clock and upset the Indians 27-19.

Head Coach Nathan Smith celebrates the win with the Wildcats on the field.
"Our offensive line played huge tonight, by far their best," said Coach Smith. "I was a little worried when we lost Brayden Carey and Sawyer Spainhoward early. You're talking about losing two, 2-way starters early in the first quarter, so for the guys that came in, stepped up, and played both ways and played 'big man' football, that was big."

Carey appeared to have separated his shoulder early on. He is scheduled to undergo x-rays today and his condition will be determined afterwards. Family members are hopeful that the injury isn't too serious.

Spainhoward suffered a broken thumb at the base of the thumb and was taken to the emergency room. According to Spainhoward's family, he is in a soft cast and is scheduled to see an orthopedic doctor on Monday. Edmonson County staff members feel confident about the orthopedic staff being able to make it safe for him to play. They said they expect encouraging news on Monday.

Caudill said that the team had a choice to either let the early injuries affect the team in a positive or a negative way.

"When people get hurt, you gotta try to win that game for them. That's what it's all about, we're a team and if one man goes down, then it's next man up and that's exactly what we did."

Smith was all smiles after the game.  "I told the guys earlier that it would've been easy for some of them to jump ship, but I've been preaching everyday that we'll keep fighting and get this thing figured out. Tonight we stepped up and we showed something really good."

The Wildcats are now 3-4 on the season and are 1-1 in District 2 play. They have three remaining regular season games, two of them district contests that are expected to be good match ups.

The Wildcats will take on Hart County in Munfordville next Friday at 7pm. Listen to the game live on EdmonsonVoice.com with the pregame show starting at 6:45pm with Scott and Bryan on WildcatsLive.
