Darren Doyle, story and photos The streak continued tonight for the Lady Cats as they dominated the Caverna Lady Colonels 2-0 (25-5, 25-7) in their ninth straight win, tying last year's team winning streak. With each victory being a sweep, it also means that the Lady Cats have won 21 consecutive sets, a school record. The school record for the most consecutive game wins was set by the 2007 District Champion Lady Cats with 16 in a row. Edmonson County jumped off to a 5-0 start during the first set, prompting a Caverna timeout. The Lady Cats kept their foot on the gas, forcing another Caverna timeout at 13-0. EC rattled off four more before giving up Caverna's first point at 17-1. The girls cruised to an easy 25-5 first set win. The second set was the same song, second verse as EC poured out a 13-0 start and never looked back. Coach Haley Garmon took advantage of the opportunity to use the entire bench, giving some reserve players some good varsity experience. The Lady Cats finished the second set on top, 25-7 and the game 2-0.
They will try for their 10th straight on Tuesday night at the annual "Dig Pink" Cancer Benefit game against Hart County (12-9). A portion of the proceeds will benefit a local family affected by cancer. A silent auction will also be held. Game is scheduled to begin at 5pm.
