ECHS Track and Field coach Brad Meredith said the track teams are now into the competitive portion of the 2024 season, competing at Barren County and Warren Central last week. Of course the biggest performance had to be Kasey Webb who threw over 50 ft in shot put for the first time, and he threw a state-leading mark of 52' 6". Kasey has worked very hard to reach this point in his high school career. He is exactly what track and field is all about. He has put in the time and effort to be an elite thrower , I am very proud of him. Coach Michael Peger has done such a great job with all of our throwers. They would not be where they are today without him. He deserves all the coaching credit with Kasey. I couldn’t be happier for him or Kasey." This week the track teams compete in meets at Glasgow and Greenwood.

Edmonson County Dominates Warren Central in Three Innings, 15-0 Madison Doyle, story and photos: The Edmonson County Lady Cat Softball team hosted its annual senior night last night, April 22, 2024. The Lady Cats hosted and defeated the Warren Central Lady Dragons 15-0 in three innings. The Lady Cats are saying goodbye to three seniors, Makayla Hogg, Kaylee Ann Sanders, and Autumn Simmons. The short game saw Edmonson's first run on the board in the bottom of the first, when senior Kaylee Ann Sanders scored on a ground out from senior Autumn Simmons. After a quick top of the second, thanks to Lady Cat pitcher Julie Norris, the Lady Cats took control of the game in the bottom of the inning and never looked back. With two outs, the Lady Cats were able to put together the following consecutive plays: single, walk, single, single, double, Lady Dragon error, and another double to take a commanding 7-0 lead. After three straight outs against Warren Central in the top of the third, the wheels came off for the Lady Dragons as Edmonson County was able to put 8 more runs on the board, resulting in a run-ruled, 15-0 lop-sided win. Kaylee Ann Sanders went 2-3 for the Lady Cats with a double and 3 RBIs, Julie Norris went 2-3 with 2 RBIs, Jolee Vincent went 2-2 with a triple and 2 RBIs, Shelby Sowders also earned a triple and an RBI, Makayla Hogg knocked in one on a double, with Autumn Simmons and Addie Childress also earning base hits.
It only took 34 pitches for Norris to get the job done for the Lady Cats from the circle, giving up no runs on 3 hits, no walks, and struck out 3. Edmonson County committed no errors and put up 10 hits against the Lady Dragons. Edmonson County is now 7-10 on the season and is scheduled to travel to Butler County on Thursday for a District 12 match. Make plans to attend the Boys Soccer camp June 17th and 18th hosted by the Edmonson County Wildcat Soccer Team. Forms should be sent this week from school. Cold Bats Result in 3-0 Loss Darren Doyle, story: Alyssa Doyle, photos: The Lady Cats could only manage three hits last night at James Woodcock field at ECHS as they fell to Grayson County 3-0 in their first district game of the season. District play was set to begin last week but rain and soggy field conditions delayed that until Tuesday evening. Edmonson County had not played since their spring break tournament in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, that ended on April 5th and saw the Lady Cats go 3-2 on the trip. While the temperature was a nice 83 degrees at first pitch, the EC bats were not quite as warm. Grayson County put a run on the board in the top of the first, after a couple of singles and a sacrifice bunt to take a 1-0 lead. Edmonson County held Grayson scoreless in the second and pitcher Julie Norris started off the bottom of the inning with a single to center. Despite a couple of singles and a stolen base, the Lady Cats could not cross the plate in the inning. The score would remain 1-0 in favor of the Lady Cougars until the top of the 6th inning, when a couple of Edmonson County errors resulted in another run by Grayson. Another Grayson County single plated another run to increase their lead to 3-0. Edmonson County had a good opportunity to generate some runs in the bottom of the sixth as the Lady Cats reached on back-to-back Cougar errors to put runners on the corners but each of the base runners were thrown out as they attempted two different plays at home plate. After giving up two singles to start the top of the 7th, the Lady Cats held Grayson County scoreless, but went quietly in the bottom of the 7th with two groundouts and a strike out looking for a final 3-0 score in favor of the Lady Cougars. Jolee Vincent, Julie Norris, and Emma Price all went 1-3 at the plate. Kaylee Ann Sanders drew the only walk for the Lady Cats. Pitcher Julie Norris went the full 7 innings for Edmonson County and gave up one earned run on 6 hits, struck out 5, and walked only one.
Grayson County's Ellie Bratcher (8th grade) struck out 11 Lady Cat batters in 7 innings. Edmonson County fell to 6-9 on the season and 0-1 in District 12 play. They are scheduled to take on Trinity (Whitesville) on Thursday at home in another district match beginning at 6PM. Edmonson County Wins in Three Innings It was a barrage of bats at Wildcat Field on Monday evening as they consistently made solid contact with pitches from the Warren Central Dragons. The onslaught of offense was far too much for the struggling Dragons as the Cats put up 17 runs in the second inning, where the entire lineup batted around, three batters hit three times in the inning, and one batter would have made is fourth trip to the plate in the inning had he not been pulled for a sub. It was also a special evening for sophomore pitcher/infielder Hunter Wilson, who earned his 200th strikeout in a game during the team's spring break trip to the East Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association Tournament. Head Coach Michael Meredith presented him with the game ball in which the feat was accomplished. Against the Dragons, three Wildcats were perfect at the plate, with Levi Meredith going 2 for 2 with a triple and an RBI, Hunter Wilson went 2-2 with a double, and Garrett Lyons went 3-3. Drew Pierce was 2-3, Carter Hodges went 2-3 with a double, Dakotah Curtis was 2-3 with a triple, Colton Webb went 2-3 with a double, and Layne Ashley was 2-3 with a double. Pierce also had two stolen bases and Ashley swiped one. Three Wildcats saw action on the mound in the three-inning match against the Dragons, which was run-ruled. Colton Webb started the game, giving up no hits, walking three, and striking out one with one hit batsmen and an earned run.
Carter Hodges struck out three on no hits and no walks. Kalvin Kitchens faced two batters in the final inning and gave up two runs on one hit with no walks and a strikeout. The Dragons were held to only one hit while the Wildcats slapped 21 total for their side. Edmonson County only struck out twice during the game and zero walks. "We hit it pretty good," Coach Meredith said after the game. Warren Central fell to 1-7 on the year. The Wildcats improved to 8-5 on the season and will host Allen County-Scottsville tonight at 5:30PM. |
