The Edmonson County Lady Cats finished their regular season last Thursday with a win against Allen County in three sets. It marked the first time that the Lady Cats had lost a set since the All A State Classic on September 17, 2016. Even though the consecutive set winning streak ended at an amazing 24 sets, they were still able to extend their overall winning streak to 11 games in a row.
The District 12 Tournament is scheduled to begin tonight at Butler County where the Lady Cats will take on the struggling Lady Bears in the first round beginning at 6pm. A win against the 1-21 Butler County team will move Edmonson County into the district finals for the 8th straight year. The Lady Cats have not taken home the district title since 2011, which marked the third year in a row EC claimed a district title, dating back to 2009. First year head coach Haley Garmon said that the team had a good practice yesterday and seem to be ready for tonight's game. "They are eager to play," said Garmon. "They know that they have what it takes, but it will take everything they've got." The team is encouraging Edmonson County fans to make the trip to Morgantown tonight to cheer on the Lady Cats. If the girls advance tonight, WildcatsLive will broadcast the championship game live on Thursday, thanks to an extended agreement with Edmonson County High School. It will make the first time in school's history that an ECHS volleyball game will be included in a live, play-by-play broadcast. The Lady Cats hold the number one seed in District 12 and are currently ranked number two in Region 3 with an overall record of 23-9. Coach Garmon's coaching success is similar to that which her older sister, Shannon Gibson Lowe enjoyed, as Shannon helped coach the 2007 team to the school's first district title with a record of 30-7 on the season and set a school record for the most consecutive wins at 16 games in a row. Lowe was part of the Lady Cat coaching staff in the '06 and '07 seasons.
