2014 Rafferty’s/Double Dogs Caveland Classic
For the eighth consecutive year, Edmonson County High School will play host to the Rafferty’s/Double Dogs Caveland Classic. The classic will begin on Monday, December 29th and finish on December 31st. There will be six girls teams and four boys teams involved this year. The girls teams include: Edmonson County, Warren East, Muhlenberg County, Madisonville, Simon Kenton (Northern Kentucky), and Ballard Memorial (Western Kentucky). The boys teams include: Edmonson County, Warren East, Hopkins County Central, and Ballard Memorial. ECHS Athletic Director Kyle Pierce says that the games should be extremely competitive. “When you look at the girls teams with strong schools like Muhlenberg, Madisonville, and Simon Kenton; those are teams that traditionally make big runs when the post-season begins. Our boys teams involve four teams that each game should be a tossup. They are all very similar with talent and all will play an exciting style of basketball. Also, with Hopkins County Central, you have some local flavor with ECHS Alumni Rex Booth as their head coach, and with Warren East, you have former ECHS assistant coach Brandon Combs as the head coach of the Raiders. So it will be good to see those guys again and see how their teams progress during the year.” As title sponsor, Rafferty’s & Double Dogs restaurants play the key role in putting on the classic each year. Pierce said there would not be a classic without the help of Edmonson County’s own Scott Lindsey, who serves as vice president. “Without Scott, there would not be a Caveland Classic. He not only helps us out financially, but he has provided meals for all the teams. That’s a lot of food! The teams and coaches that come here are always impressed. The officials are always excited to come here also because they know we treat them well too. This 3 day event helps our high school teams, parents, and fans to stay close and not have to travel far away to watch us play. We are very fortunate to have Scott Lindsey and the people at Rafferty’s & Double Dogs to help us put on this great event, so come early and watch some great basketball.” There will be five games each day with all games being played at the High School. Tickets are 8.00 for the entire day. There is no cost to season tickets holders. Their cards will be honored throughout the tournament.
