![]() Darren Doyle, Edmonson Voice The ECHS Football traveled to Allen County last Thursday for a pre-season scrimmage game. Although you certainly can't hang the entire season on a practice game, Head Coach Kyle Pierce said it was a useful tool to use in preparing for future game. He sat down with us and answered a few questions. EV: How impactful was last night's scrimmage? KP----We rely on scrimmages for what they are... A scrimmage. We look at some of our base offenses and defenses and work on specific concepts or coverages. You see immediately what you have to work on. It allowed our guys to face a much bigger team and see things happen game speed. EV: What strengths and weaknesses did you see? KP----As far as strengths go, defensively, I thought we made them work the ball. They didn't break big runs. We contained them. We did have a couple busted coverages that are fixable. For the most part, I thought we tackled well. Weaknesses--offensively, we have to do a better job up front. We have to maintain our blocks and give our backs enough time to make it to the second level. We have to protect the quarterback better as well. We did have some big plays, and that is something we will have to have for us to be successful. EV: Any surprises? KP----Nothing really surprising, but our kids fought hard. For a scrimmage, I thought we tackled well. We let them out of few "should've been a tackle" moments, but overall we made some plays against their running game. We'll have a preview of Friday night's game coming up later this week. It will be the 2015 season opener at home against Caverna at 7pm. If you can't attend the game, make sure your catch all the live action right here on Wildcats Live! with Scott and Bryan.
