Darren Doyle, story and photos: Members of the school district maintenance crew worked on the installation of a brand new scoreboard at the ECHS football field today, thanks to a generous donation from Coca Cola, who footed the bill for the addition. "The new scoreboard is much larger than our old one," said Supt. of Edmonson County Schools Patrick Waddell. "Our old one was about 14 years old I think, and it finally became beyond repair. This one should be ready to go for our home opener on Friday night." The Wildcats will take on Grayson County in the annual "Tobacco Stick Bowl" that will determine the winner of the coveted tobacco stick, which is currently in the possession of the Wildcats, and has been for the past three years.
Edmonson County is 2-0 on the season, as well as the Cougars, who are much improved from the last few years. The new sign accompanies other improvements at Wildcat Stadium, like a brand new press box and home bleacher seating, along with new goal posts. The new seating is approximately double (around 2,000) from the old wooden bleachers that had been in place since the field was constructed in the early 1980s. Kickoff Friday night is scheduled for 7pm. You can listen to the game live right here on the Edmonson Voice with the WildcatsLive crew.
