Edmonson Voice Staff photos courtesy of ECMS Football The Edmonson County Middle School 7th Grade Football team hosted the Green River Valley Conference Championship game last night at ECHS Wildcat Stadium as they defeated Muhlenberg County, claiming the championship title with a score of 24-0. The seventh graders were ranked number one in the conference, now with an overall record of 9-2, and a conference record of 8-1. Coach Nathan Smith said with the recent rain he knew it would be wet and soggy, but didn't see that as a disadvantage. "I believe that really played into our favor, because we're a power running team and they preferred to run side-to-side." The 7th grade Wildcats put up 182 yards of offense while holding Muhlenberg to a negative 23 yards. The Mustangs weren't even able to achieve a single first down. The win gives the Wildcats their third conference title in four years and earned them a bid in the state playoffs. They will now play Drakes Creek Middle School in the state playoffs on October 10th at Bowling Green High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 pm. Coach Smith said "We actually opened our season with Drakes Creek on August the 11th and we lost the game 20-8. However, at the time we only dressed fourteen 7th grade players and as of last night, we dressed twenty-nine, so this should be a very good game between a couple of good teams. "
