Morgantown, KY- On Saturday December 6, the ECMS 8th grade Lady Cats won their opening round game in the Green River Valley Conference Tournament by defeating Ohio County, 24-21. The Lady Cats were back in action on Tuesday night to play 3rd round opponent McLean County. The first half of the game was more like a lopped-sided romp of questionable fouls called against ECMS. They were penalized with 7 fouls to only 3 called against McLean County, but still somehow went into the locker room with a 4 point lead. At half time Coach Tyra Ballance went over her game plan again and told the girls that this was their game, and that somehow they had the lead despite petty fouls and poor play. She also said that they needed to slow the game down, run their offense, and rebound. The girls listened, and responded. The Lady Cats came out on an offensive roll, knocking down their first 5 shots to McLean Counties one basket. About halfway thru the 4th quarter, McLean mounted a comeback, cutting the lead to 5, but that’s as close as they would get. On the heels of good guard play by ECMS, Chanley Logsdon, and Hannah Meredith took over on both sides of the ball, shutting McLean down with steals and dominating offense. ECMS won 35-23, with 7th grader Lauren Ballance leading the way with 10 points, followed by 8th graders Chanley Logsdon with 9, and Hannah Meredith with 8 points. ECMS advances to the Finals of the Green River Valley Conference Tournament to play Muhlenberg South Middle School tonights, Thursday December 11, 2014 @6:45pm, at Butler County Middle School in Morgantown. Everyone come to Morgantown and cheer these girls on if you get a chance, and GO LADY CATS!!
