For the second time in the fall season, the Midway women's golf team took home a first place finish in a tournament, but this time it was the River States Conference Fall Preview at Lassing Pointe Golf Club.
The 52-hole tournament was broken up into two days with 27 holes being played on both Monday and Tuesday. On Monday the teams played the first round and half of the second, then on Tuesday, they played the remainder of the second round as well as the third round. The Eagles finished the tournament with a three round total of 994, good enough for a first place finish by 28 strokes. Indiana University East finished in second place with a three round total of 1022, while Asbury (Ky.) claimed third with a 1031. "This was a great victory for our ladies. They fought through tough, cold and rainy conditions on Monday and played some really good golf," said head coach, Otis Smith. Kelsey Whitehouse (Bowling Green, Ky.) and former ECHS standout Kayla Meredith (Brownsville, Ky.) both finished the tournament on a high note. Whitehouse shot back-to-back 89's in the first two rounds, but she fired an 81 in the final round to finish with a 259 to finish in ninth place. Meredith on the other hand, finished with a 92 and a 90 in her first and second rounds, but came out and got back on track in the final round with an 83 to finish in 13th with a 265 overall. Lassing Pointe will serve as the host of the River States Conference Championship which will be played on April 24-25, 2017. The Eagles will return to the links on October 2-3 when they play in the UPIKE Fall Invitational at StoneCrest Golf Course.
