Darren Doyle, story: Madison Doyle, photos: The Lady Cats fell to Grayson County last night in Leitchfield 44-32 in spite of a blistering start that had the Lady Cougars on their heels. Edmonson County jumped out to a 12-2 lead, connecting on four 3-pointers in the first quarter. Grayson County managed to put a few more points on the board as the Lady Cats stayed in control 14-7 going into the second quarter. Things changed quickly for Edmonson County as hot hands began to cool down and Grayson began to take advantage. The Lady Cougars fought back and had cut the EC lead to 20-18 at halftime. Grayson took the lead in the third quarter and never looked back as they held on for the 44-32 win. Offensively, the Lady Cats were led by Caitlin Simon who had 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Only two other Lady Cats scored as Peyton Martin scored 12 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, and Skylar Lewis had 4 points and 4 rebounds.
The Lady Cats drop to 18-7 on the season but still sit atop the Region Three rankings. The top seed in the District 12 tournament will now come down to a coin toss, which will pair the Lady Cats with either Trinity or Butler County in the first round. Edmonson County has defeated both teams multiple times throughout the season with a 28 point average margin of victory.
