SOUTH BEND, IN – The Bowling Green Hot Rods and the Midwest League announced the All-Star Game rosters today, and six Hot Rods players have made the Eastern Division team. The game will be played at Lansing’s Cooley Law School Stadium on June 19th.

SS Taylor Walls and LF Moises Gomez were named as starters for the Eastern Division squad. Teammates 2B Vidal Brujan, INF Zach Rutherford, and DHRonaldo Hernandez were named as reserves. RHP Riley O’Brien was also named as a member of the pitching staff.

Walls enters play today with the second highest batting average on the team, hitting .322 in 48 games played, a mark that is also sixth best in the league. He also has the third best on-base percentage (.416) and the third most runs scored (40).

Gomez has the seventh best batting average in the league (.316), and is one of three Hot Rods hitters in the top 10. His 56 hits are also second best on the Hot Rods.

Brujan is second in the league with 23 stolen bases and leads the league with 46 runs scored.

Rutherford leads the team with a .327 average in 44 games played. That mark is also fifth best in the Midwest League.

Hernandez leads the team with 13 doubles, six home runs, and 40 RBI. He is one of four Hot Rods hitters to have a batting average over .300.

O’Brien has the third best ERA on the team at 1.98. He has made 13 appearances on the season, including three starts. In 36 and one-third innings, he has allowed just eight earned runs, walking 20 and striking out 49.

“We are tremendously proud of the entire Hot Rods team for their great first half, and getting six All-Stars is a testament to their success as a team,” said Hot RodsGM/COO Eric C. Leach. “I look forward to watching them represent the best of Bowling Green at the game in a few weeks.”

The six All-Stars from the Hot Rods continues a trend in the last several years. Seven were named to the 2015 game, six in 2016, and five went to last year’s game at Dow Diamond in Midland, Michigan.
