Meade County Wins 74-30 Darren Doyle, story: Madison Doyle, photos: The Meade County Lady Waves were too much to handle for the Lady Cats in the first round of the Region 3 Tournament held at the Owensboro Sportscenter on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. Edmonson County fell 74-30 at the hands of Meade, a team that many favor to win the region title. Meade County connected on 6 three-point shots in the first quarter alone (12 for the game) to establish their offensive presence, and their full court press caused all sorts of trouble for the Lady Cats as Edmonson County committed 21 turnovers for the game. Meade County held the Lady Cats to only 6 points in the second quarter and took a 45-21 lead into the locker room at the half. The third quarter was nearly a carbon copy of the second, with the Lady Waves outscoring Edmonson 20-6 and amassing a 65-27 lead going into the final quarter. The fourth quarter ran by faster than desired for three Edmonson County seniors, Paige Wolfe, Hallie Cassady, and Jaedlyn Simon, as they played their final game in a Lady Cat uniform. Coach Bart Weaver said he knew the Lady Cats were in for a tough contest against the Lady Waves and he felt like Meade County would be the region winner this year.
"We knew how good they could shoot--several of them, but their coach told me, 'coach, we've never shot that good,' so it makes me feel better, but no, it doesn't. They had kids that were 22% and 26% on the year that are hitting threes, and that's just how it is. But I don't think the girls quit--they got a little frustrated and I got a little mad because they started barking at each other a little bit." Coach Weaver also discussed his three seniors. "When I took this program over, they were freshmen. I'll always remember them forever. We started with seven and ended up with three. Hats off to Paige, Hallie, and Jade. You know, they've stood with me for 4 years. Sometimes it wasn't easy, but I appreciate them doing what all they've done for us." The Lady Cats were led by Wolfe's 12 points, followed by Cariann Williams' 8 points and 6 rebounds. Hallie Cassady added 7 points and 6 rebounds, and Lily Jayne Vincent had 3 points and 2 rebounds. Edmonson County finishes their season with a record of 11-21.
