The ECHS Lady Cat Volleyball traveled to the Apollo Summer Slam Down Tournament in Owensboro this past Friday and Saturday. This was a "pool play" tournament, which basically ranks teams for different division play the next day. This tourney featured 3 divisions, Bronze, Silver, and Gold.

On Friday night, the Lady Cats faced Green County in game one and won 2-0. Game 2 was against Owensboro High School, and although EC fought back from a first set, ten-point deficit, it wasn't enough as the Lady Cats fell. The second set saw an early ECHS lead, but an 8-point run by Owensboro proved to be too much for EC as the girls were defeated 25-18.

The 1-1 results Friday night placed Lady Cats in the Silver Division of the tournament.  On Saturday night, the Lady Cats maintained a solid lead against Ohio County throughout both sets to win two straight sets 25-16 and 25-22.

The Lady Cats then faced Marshall County and battled hard but lost 2-1 (22-25, 25-23, 4-15).
The final match of the day to determine the 3rd place team for the Silver Division proved to be a rematch with none other than district foe Whitesville Trinity.  The first two sets were nothing short of a nail biter that kept fans and players on the edge of their seats and the Lady Cats won the first set 25-23.  The next match would require playing up to the cap of 27 to win the second set, which found Whitesville edging out ECHS with a one point advantage (26-27).  The Lady Cats would not let that happen again in the third and final set, as they ended up on the winning side of the scoreboard, 17-16.

After playing six matches with 17 sets in three days, Lady Cats proved their endurance with a third place tournament win and a record of 4-2 to start the season.  Lady Cats return to play tonight (Monday) at Ohio County at 5:30pm and home against Grayson County on Tuesday night at 5:00pm.
