Darren Doyle, story- Madison Doyle, photos: Edmonson County kicked things off with a bang at the Rafferty's/Double Dog's Caveland Classic yesterday as the Lady Cats pounced on the Lady Panthers of Russellville in a huge 63-19 win at ECHS. After the Lady Cats were able to establish a 19-2 lead after the first quarter, the whole team got involved in the lop-sided win, as 14 different players ended up on the stat sheet in one form or another. Edmonson County stretched their lead to 39-10 at halftime which allowed Coach Kevin Jackson to rest his starters for a portion of the second half. The Lady Cats led 48-14 after three quarters and the younger reserve Lady Cats held their own, including sophomore Mikayla Dishon, who nailed a three-pointer from the corner at the final buzzer. Caitlin Simon led the offense for Edmonson County with 21 points while adding 4 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 assists.
The remaining box score was: Ballance 8, Lewis 7, Collins 7, Martin 5, Cline 4, Dishon 3, Doyle 3, Harrison 3 (6 reb) Vincent 2. The Lady Cats shot nearly 60% from the field and 77% from the free throw line. Edmonson County improved to 7-4 on the season.
