The dynamic senior duo of Caitlin Simon and Peyton Martin led the Lady Cats to a victory over the Adair County Lady Indians at the first day of the Rafferty's Caveland Classic at ECHS, 67-47.

Simon put up 27 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals, while Martin notched 25 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals.

Edmonson County started strongly with a 16-8 lead after the first and led 36-19 at the half. Adair County refused to go away with a solid third quarter, outscoring the Lady Cats 17-16 and cutting EC's lead to 52-36.

It would be as close as the Lady Indians would get as the Lady Cats held their ground and remained in control as they went on to win.

Coach Kevin Jackson said that while there were a few spots he thought needed a little work, he was pleased with the overall effort and execution from his team.

"We looked a little out of sorts offensively at times, but what can you say about our two seniors there that do the most of our scoring, with Peyton Martin and Caitlin Simon? They're just two outstanding high school players. I've been around a lot of them and they can stack up with about anybody."

He discussed that the defensive effort was key, which in order to be successful, takes much more than two players putting up impressive offense.

"It takes 5, 6, 7, or 8 girls on the defensive side, and that's what I'm most proud of," said Jackson. "I've always tried to hang my hat on defense and rebounds, and then if you've got a couple of scorers it just makes everything look that much easier on everyone."

Also helping the Lady Cats was Chanley Logsdon with 6 points, Lauren Ballance with 4 points, Katlin Collins added 3, and Mia Goad scored 2.

Edmonson County is now 9-2 on the season and will take on Jeffersontown Thursday night at 5:30pm in day two of the Caveland Classic.
