Edmonson County Now 2-0 On Season Darren Doyle story: Madison Doyle photos: Lady Cat Coach Kevin Jackson was well pleased with the effort put forth from his team in a huge 35 point win over the Lady Raiders at Warren East. "The effort tonight was outstanding," he said. "It's what you look for early in the season. When you give the effort, good things will happen." Six different Lady Cats put points on the board while nine separate players grabbed at least two rebounds each. Edmonson County held Warren East to only 14 first half points, taking a 28-14 lead into the locker room at the break. Caitlin Simon led the offense with 18 points while swiping 5 rebounds and making 7 of 8 free throws in Edmonson's season opener. Katlin Collins was close behind with 15 points and three rebounds. She was also 4-4 from the line. The Lady Cat defense gave Warren East all sorts of trouble and they turned that trouble into transition baskets. Edmonson were also 23/29 from the foul line, shooting a team 79%. The Lady Raider loss comes off their 76-49 over Metcalfe earlier in the week. A win Jackson called "legit." "I was concerned coming in," he said. "Even though we beat them a couple times last year, but I thought our defense was really good tonight. We take a lot of pride in our free throw shooting but we don't talk about it a lot. We finished second in the state last year at 75%. Our kids know it's something we hang our hat on." The remaining box score was Madison Harrison 9, Peyton Martin 8, Lauren Ballance 8, Emma Rose Vincent, 4.
Edmonson County is scheduled to travel to Cumberland County on Saturday in an afternoon girl/boy doubleheader. The game was originally scheduled to be broadcast on EdmonsonVoice.com but that has been changed. There will be no live broadcast for the game. The Lady Cats are now 1-0 on the season while Warren East falls to 1-1.
