Darren Doyle, story and photos The Lady Cat volleyball team won 2-1 over Breckinridge County last night at ECHS improving to a 8-3 record on the season. Sophomore Megan Dockery was asked to start in the absence of Senior Captain MaryChris Waddell, who was out with an illness. Dockery contributed nicely as the Lady Cats had control over the first set from the beginning, maintaining a lead throughout, and won, 25-19. ECHS struggled a bit at the first of the second set, falling behind 7-2 and causing Coach Brad Sullivan to call timeout. EC was able to score three straight points but Breckinridge was able to push back and hold the lead at 16-9. It was then that the Lady Cats went on an impressive run of seven straight to tie the set at 16 all. The score remained close but the Lady Tigers were able to hold on to win the set 25-20 and tie the game at 1-1. The third set was a fun and entertaining set to watch as fans saw 14 ties and 12 different lead changes. Neither team ever held more than a two point lead during the entire match. Breckinridge took their first lead at 11-10 but quickly lost it as the Lady Cats scored the next three. The Lady Tigers came back and tied it again at 13 all, and from there the score was either tied or a one point differential when EC called a timeout behind 1, 24-23.
It remained a seesaw until the Lady Cats were able to score two in a row from a 25-25 tie as they finally won the set 27-25, and the game 2-1. The Lady Cats are currently ranked #4 in the third region with a 5-2 regional record and hold a 2-1 record in the district. The girls will host Warren Central at home Thursday night for a F/JV/Varsity game with JV starting at 5:30pm.
