Freshman Peyton Martin led the way for the Lady Cats last night as she scored 25 points off the bench in a victory over the Lady Bears of Butler County in game one of the 12th district tournament held at ECHS. Martin provided a huge boost while scoring 14 points in the second quarter, a boost that would keep the Lady Bears a comfortable distance away for the remainder of the game.
Caitlin Simon, another freshman, also came up big for ECHS as she scored 20 points while adding 8 rebounds. Martin's big 2nd quarter helped give the Lady Cats a 42-33 lead at the half and they continued their momentum in the 3rd. Butler County had a strong 4th but ECHS held on for an 85-70 win.
Two other Lady Cats hit double figures as senior Brandi Lindsey added 16 points and Madelyne Taylor scored 12. Jhonna Basil helped out with 8 and Tori Browning added 3. The Lady Cats hit their free throws late in the game and hit a total of 33 out of 46 (72%). The victory last night guaranteed the Lady Cats a spot in the Regional Tournament which begins next week.
The Lady Cats will face top-seeded Grayson County, who rocked Whitesville Trinity 69-12, Thursday night in the championship game. The boys team will face-off tonight against Butler County in the first round of the boys tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 6pm. Senior Night Activities will begin at 5:30.
