Edmonson Remains Undefeated In District 12 Play Darren Doyle, story: Madison Doyle, photos: The Edmonson County Lady Cats continued their success with another win last night at ECHS; this one against district foe Trinity, and on homecoming night. Three out of four young ladies named to the annual homecoming court were Lady Cat basketball team members, including senior Abby Alexander, who was named queen; however, before flowers and crowns were passed around, these Lady Cats had to take care of some business first, and they did by way of defeating the Lady Raiders, 56-45. Led by senior Caitlin Simon, who scored 18 points, pulled 5 rebounds, and swiped 2 steals, the Lady Cats struggled with their shots in the first and missed several open jumpers and failed to connect on easy baskets around the rim. They managed to take a 13-9 lead going into the second quarter. The second was a different story and it set the tone for the rest of the game as Edmonson County shored up their well-known defensive pressure, caused several turnovers on Trinity, and turned the Lady Raider mishaps into points. The Lady Cats outscored Trinity 18-9 in the quarter and took a 31-18 lead into the locker room at halftime. The versatility of senior point guard Peyton Martin also was key in the victory as she also impressed with 16 points, 8 assists, and 2 steals.
Edmonson County continued to force turnovers in the third quarter and held Trinity to only two points as they extended their lead over the Lady Raiders 48-20 as they began the fourth. The Lady Cats went on to win as they improved to 20-4 on the season and will face another district opponent on Friday as Grayson County travels to ECHS for one of two more district 12 games left on the season. Also scoring for Edmonson County was Madison Harrison with 6, Emma Rose Vincent with 6, Katlin Collins scored 3, Abby Alexander, Lauren Ballance, and Mia Goad each scored 2 points, and Katie Lindsey added 1.
