Edmonson Voice Sports photos by Laney Meredith A very sluggish start proved to be too much for the Lady Cats to overcome as they fell to district rival Grayson County 52-34 in Leitchfield last night. Most everything that could go right for the Lady Cougars seemed to happen, while the opposite took place for the Lady Cats during the first half. Nine turnovers in the first quarter helped the Lady Cougars jump out to a 21-4 lead, and Edmonson County found themselves in a 33-12 hole at halftime. The Lady Cats showed some spark in the third as they outscored Grayson 17-7 to cut the lead to 40-29 as fourth quarter play began. Edmonson County was able to rattle the Lady Cougars with a big three from Caitlin Simon to cut the lead to 40-34, capping off a 22-7 run with 6:32 to go, but the Lady Cats wouldn't score again as Grayson was able to regain control and finish off the game with a win against Edmonson County.
Only three Lady Cats were able to put points on the board in the tough road loss, led by Caitlin Simon's 13 points and 7 rebounds, and Peyton Martin's 13 points and 2 rebounds. Madelyn Taylor also helped the offensive effort with 8 points while pulling down 5 rebounds. The Lady Cats are now .500 on the season with an 8-8 record, (1-1 in district play) and are scheduled to play Breckinridge County at home on Tuesday, January 12th in a JV/V game. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30pm.
