The Lady Cat volleyball team opened up their regular season last night in Bowling Green against the Greenwood Lady Gators.
Edmonson County got off to a shaky start in the first set, finding themselves in a 7-0 hole and forcing head coach Haley Garmon to call timeout.
The Lady Cats scored three straight, but that was followed by a five point run by the Lady Gators to make it 12-3. Edmonson County cut Greenwood's lead to 16-10, but the Lady Cats never scored more than three at one time and couldn't overcome the deficit, dropping the first set 25-14.
The second set started back and forth as the score became tied at four each, but a 6 point run by the Lady Gators had the Lady Cats struggling early in the contest. After a short timeout by EC, the Lady Cats rallied to cut Greenwood's lead to 14-11, but another strong 7-2 run from the Lady Gators extended their lead to 21-13.
The Lady Cats got another couple of points back, but were unable to stop the Lady Gators as they lost the set 25-16 and the game 2-0.
The Lady Cats will host district rival Trinity at ECHS in the season home opener this Thursday, August 18 in a JV/V matchup starting at 6pm.
