Edmonson County now 3-3 On Season Darren Doyle, story and photos: Edmonson County's Lady Cat softball team's offense was very quiet in the first game of a varsity doubleheader against Bowling Green last night at James Woodcock Field in Brownsville as they fell 10-0. The Lady Cats only managed 3 hits during the first match with sophomore Abbie Slaughter, senior Karissa Waldrop, and sophomore Shea VanMeter each going 1-3. Freshman pitcher Josi Morrison gave up 4 earned runs over 7 innings while allowing 11 hits, walking 2, and striking out 3. Both teams had little trouble finding offense in the second game, but three home runs by the Lady Purples, including two by catcher Gia Martin who put the first pitch of the game over the left field fence, helped get Bowling Green going. Edmonson County bounced back in the first with 4 runs but a 9-run second inning from BG made the difference in the game, despite a big 7-run 5th inning from the Lady Cats. Bowling Green defeated Edmonson County 26-14. Freshman pitcher Becca Meredith struck out 3 while walking 11 over 7 innings. She also went 1-4 at the plate with an RBI.
Karissa Waldrop and Josi Morrison each went 3-5 with 2 RBI apiece, Callie Webb was 3-5 with 3 RBI, Shea VanMeter was 3-5 with 1 RBI, and Abbie Slaughter was 2-5 with an RBI. The Lady Cats are now 3-3 on the season and will travel to Metcalfe County Tuesday night for a V/JV match beginning at 5:30pm.
