Edmonson Voice Staff Granville Meredith, Contributor Darren Doyle, Photos After defeating Grayson County Monday night in 3 straight sets to move on to the Championship game of the 2014 12th District Volleyball Tournament, the Edmonson County Lady Cats were ready for the showdown with Whitesville Trinity in the finals last night. Both teams were highly entertaining and competitive as EC jumped out to an early lead, remained in control and won the first set with a score of 25 – 21. The second set found Trinity highly motivated, giving a very solid performance and winning 17 – 25. Momentum shifted back to ECHS during the third set with the crowd becoming nothing short of electric as the Lady Cats dominated the entire set with a 25 -12 win. After both teams gained better control of their emotions, they each settled in and an old fashioned barn burner was seen by all in attendance. The fourth set was back and forth the entire match, but Trinity came out on top 23 -25. The final set felt like a race to the finish with most of the crowd on their feet, and Trinity controlled the lead and tempo from the start. The Lady Cats just couldn't seem to find their rhythm and Trinity held on to win 15-7, becoming the 12th District Champions. Head Coach Heather Ritter was proud of the team's performance and looks for the Lady Cats to advance far into the regional tournament which will be held at Ohio County. We encourage our readers to get behind the Lady Cats and we hope to see the Regional Championship Trophy displayed at ECHS. All Tournament Team and All-Academic Team below.
