Lady Cats Look To Bring Home First Volleyball District Title Since 2011

The Lady Cats are returning to the District 12 Tournament finals tonight in Leitchfield after defeating Grayson County 3-1 last night in round one.

Set one got off to a rocky start for Edmonson County, as they fell behind 6-1, but the Lady Cats righted the ship by scoring the next 7 points which forced a Grayson County timeout.

The Lady Cougars scored the next point out of the break but EC went on another run, this time a 8-2 stretch that was capped off by Mikayla Lindsey's rocket-shot kill that sprayed Grayson County defenders everywhere. The Lady Cougars couldn't recover and Edmonson went on to win the first set 25-13.

In set two, the Lady Cats established good consistency and began to play a bit looser while they were able to put together four and five point runs throughout the entire match. Edmonson took the second set 25-16 and a 2-0 lead, needing only one more set to punch their ticket to the finals.

The Lady Cats struggled in set three as Grayson County took advantage of the shifting momentum. The set saw the score tied five different times and Grayson County was able to jump out with a 5-point lead twice. The Lady Cougars put a nice run together at the end of the set to win 25-20 and narrow Edmonson's lead to 2-1.

Set four would be the final set as the Lady Cats finished their business quickly and firmly, blasting out to a 19-5 lead. Grayson County called a timeout in an attempt to cool down the red hot Lady Cats but it was too little, too late as Edmonson County took the set 24-7 and the game 3-1.

Edmonson County improves to 22-8 on the season as they will face the Trinity Lady Raiders (23-12) in tonight's District Finals. The Lady Cats are 2-1 against Trinity this season. The Lady Raiders have claimed the District 12 Title for the past 5 years.
