Season Comes To End After Apollo Prevails 3-1 Darren Doyle, story: Moriah Peterson, photos: Edmonson County fell to Apollo last night 3-1 in the first round of the Region 3 Tournament, held at Apollo High School in Owensboro. The Lady Cats were very aggressive in set one as they set the tone early and forced Apollo into their first timeout by jumping out to an 11-4 lead. The Lady Cats were able to use the momentum in their favor to maintain a 4 to 6 point lead throughout the set. Edmonson County fought off a 4-0 Apollo run as they cut the lead to 19-18 and they were able to hold on to take the first set 25-20. Apollo began to turn things around in set two as they were much more aggressive and took the lead early. The Lady Cats cut Apollo's lead to 10-8 but things would drastically change from there. Apollo went on a 10-1 run that not only changed the tone of the set, but the remainder of the game. The Lady Cats never recovered from that run and struggled to find any consistency throughout the next two sets. Apollo took set two 25-15, set three 25-10, and set four 25-13 to advance to the semifinals. The Lady Cats end their season with a record of 23-9 overall, a 12-5 Region 3 record, and they finished 9-2 in District 12 play, also claiming the school's first district title since 2011.
The Lady Cats will lose eight seniors from this year's team, Mikayla Lindsey, Caitlin Simon, Sierra Kenney, Kaelynn Woodcock, Cierra Collins, Shasta Smith, Kaytlin Hyde, and Peyton Martin.
