Vincent Scores Go-Ahead Bucket With 26 Seconds Remaining Edmonson Voice Sports:
With the way the Lady Cats have dominated their opponents in the first few games of this season, Coach Kevin Jackson said he told his team they needed a close game before traveling to Louisville to play in the Bullitt East Tournament December 19-22. A one-point squeaker decided in the last seconds was a bit closer than he'd have liked. "They took me at my word that we needed a close one, but I'm very, very proud of the kids in that locker room," he said. "We made some mistakes, we didn't play great, but we showed some heart there in the fourth quarter when we had to, just tickled to pull out a big win over a very good Barren County team." Barren County got off to a good start and led most of the first half. The Lady Cats put together an impressive run as the second quarter began to wind down, topped off with a buzzer beating three pointer that tied things up 18-18 at the half. Things stayed back and forth throughout the second half as both teams battled. Trailing 38-37, Lauren Ballance bounced a pass down into Emma Rose Vincent who turned and scored, putting the Lady Cats back on top, 39-38 with 26 seconds to go. Barren County's Elizabeth Burtram missed a short jumper and the ball was rebounded by Peyton Martin, but the Lady Cats turned the ball over on a traveling call with 23 seconds to go. Barren County still had multiple opportunities to regain the lead but missed a shot and then traveled in the lane on the offensive rebound as two Trojanettes had possession of the ball simultaneously with 0.7 seconds left. The Lady Cats were able to inbound the ball as time expired to win 39-38, staying undefeated at 6-0. Barren County dropped to 4-3 on the season. Caitlin Simon led Edmonson County with 21 points and 4 rebounds. Peyton Martin added 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists. Also helping in the win were Logsdon with 3 points, Harrison and Vincent each had 2 points, and Lauren Ballance added one point. The Lady Cats will now prepare for the Louisville tournament that is scheduled to begin Tuesday, December 19.
