Most of the time if you shoot 80% from the free throw line, 51% from the field and 37% from 3 point land, while committing only 11 turnovers, you will win the game. Most of the time... Not so Friday night for the Lady Cats as they hosted Grayson County in a huge District match up.
After one quarter the Lady Cats were down 11 – 14 but managed to grab the lead at the halftime buzzer, 38 – 37. After the third quarter, EC had the lead 53 – 49, but this one would go down to the wire. With 1.1 seconds left on the clock in the 4th quarter, Grayson County had the ball underneath their own basket with the score all tied up, 65 – 65. The Lady Cougars drew up a play for one of their girls to set a screen to allow a shooter get open. It was a very hard screen as it sent one Lady Cat to the ground with no call. The play worked perfectly as the Grayson County shooter fired at the buzzer, nailing the three and sinking the dagger into the hearts of ECHS players, coaching staff, and fans. Caitlin Simon led all scorers with 22 points, 3 assists, 7 rebounds, and 1 steal. Also helping the cause was Brandi Lindsey, 15 points, 11 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals, Madelyne Taylor had 10 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals, Rachael Duncan had 8 points and 3 rebounds, and Peyton Martin had 6 points, 2 assists, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals. The Lady Cats travel to Breckinridge County tomorrow night. JV tip off is scheduled for 6pm. Granville Meredith, Edmonson Voice Sports
