Darren Doyle, story and photos The Edmonson County Lady Cat Volleyball team cruised to their 5th win in a row last night, defeating Ohio County 2-0 at ECHS. This comes just after defeating district foe Trinity in three sets for Edmonson County's back-to-back All A Region Tournament win on Saturday. Trinity currently holds a number one ranking in the third Region. After losing seven seniors from last year's squad, finding a new head coach and coaching staff, and starting the season 0-4, Lady Cat fans were scratching their heads about the direction of this year's team. Since those four losses, the Lady Cats have gone 11-2 and have won 10 out of their last 11 matches, losing only to Breckinridge County, the number two-ranked team in Region 3. "There's more Comfort with players...there is trust," said coach Haley Garmon. "Players are learning what I want and our style of play. Our schedule started out difficult, which helped prepare us for tournament and district teams." The Lady Cats had little trouble with the Lady Eagles last night in the first set, jumping out to a 5-0 lead. They kept Ohio County on their heels, never allowing them to get into a rhythm, winning 25-15.
The second set was closer as Ohio County fought their way through the Lady Cat offense. Edmonson County never established any big runs, but a couple of small runs sealed their win in the second set, 25-19, and the game. The Lady Cats are scheduled to face Butler County in Morgantown on Thursday in a District 12 match. They will also play in the All A State Tournament in Louisville on Saturday. "We still have things to work on," Garmon said. We had some opponents that were not playing well that we took advantage of and allowed us to play the things we practiced. We should get better because the potential is still there to get better."
