Multiple Lady Cats & Cheer Team Members Named To All-Tournament Teams, Scholarships Darren Doyle, story: Debbie Gail Doyle, photos: The size and length of the Owensboro Catholic Lady Aces was too much for the Lady Cats to handle last night in the All A Region 3 Classic championship game held at Hancock County, as Edmonson County fell 63-38 on Monday night. The smallest player on the court for the Lady Aces most of the night was a 5'8" guard; the other starting four were 5'11" or taller, including a 6'0" guard, MacKenzie Keelin. Catholic even brought a 6'3" reserve player into the game late in the contest. The effort on behalf of the Lady Cats was like it is every night: 100%; however, the 5'2" Katie Lindsey had trouble with dribble penetration due to the long reach of the Lady Aces. A double-teaming trap from Owensboro seemed more like a sticky net, which stifled Edmonson's offense all night long. No Lady Cat reached double figures. Coach Bart Weaver described not only the size and length of the Lady Aces, but also the way in which they could get up and down the floor was "unbelievable." "They're impressive. They're really an impressive group," he said. "They just pretty much took away the things we were trying to do. It got to the point where we were trying to spread the floor, try to drive, kick, and create. That's about the only thing we could do tonight. But the main thing is, and I preached this to them the entire game, was 'don't quit.' And they played hard the entire four quarters. So to do that, to get to these finals, to get runner-up, and lose to this good team, I'm proud of my girls. They've had a lot of games here in the last couple weeks so they really deserve a couple days off." Edmonson County fell behind early 15-7 after the first quarter and trailed 36-14 at the half. A very solid third quarter from the Lady Cats cut the lead to 47-24 going into the fourth, but O.C. wouldn't allow them to come any closer as the Lady Aces went on to win their 13th All A Region 3 title in 14 years. Edmonson County broke their streak at 12 in a row last year as the Lady Cats claimed the 2018 trophy. In the box score for the Lady Cats: Logsdon 9, Lindsey 6, Harrison 6, Ballance 5, Vincent 5, Vanmeter 3, Goad 2, McCombs 2. Edmonson County players and cheer team members were also named to All A Region 3 all tournament teams. Katie Lindsey and Chanley Logsdon were honored from the Lady Cats, and cheer team members Chloe Collins and Mackenzie Jones were also honored. In addition, Logsdon was not only named to the All Academic team, but also was presented with the Region 3 $1,000 scholarship. She applied for the award in October and after she was chosen as a finalist, she was invited for a final interview at Eastern Kentucky University and later won the award. Edmonson County is now 12-7 on the season and Monday night's game marks the fourth consecutive year as an All A Region 3 finalist. They are scheduled to take on Trinity in Whitesville on Monday night in a makeup game from earlier in the season. Girls will tip at 6pm with boys action beginning afterward. You can watch the video stream live from the Edmonson Voice beginning at 5:50pm.
