Edmonson County Now 2-0 In District Play Darren Doyle, story: Madison Doyle, photos: The Edmonson County Lady Cats continued their success last night as they rolled over Butler County 65-16 in their second district win of the season. Butler County (4-9) had trouble getting the ball over the midcourt stripe under the oppressive defense of the Lady Cats that forced nearly 30 turnovers on the Lady Bears. "I'm really proud of the kids defensively," said Coach Kevin Jackson. "If you throw out the Mercer County game and E-town game, our defense has been pretty solid all year long. We weren't trying to run the score up here tonight, we played zone the whole second half except for a couple of trips where we tried to get a couple of kids going, but I'm really proud of our defense tonight and our rebounding." As has been the story of the entire season, the Lady Cat defense led to big transition points, which allowed Edmonson County to enjoy a 39-9 lead at halftime. Butler County scored even fewer points in the second half as the Lady Cats dominated the rest of the game. Edmonson County was led on offense by Caitlin Simon with 17 points. Sophomore Emma Rose Vincent scored a career-high 16 points and Peyton Martin flirted with triple-double numbers with 12 points, 10 steals, and 7 assists.
Skylar Lewis added 8 points, and Katlin Collins, Chanley Logsdon, and Madison Harrison each added 4 points. Edmonson County only shot four free throws all night and made 60% of their attempts from the field. Simon surpassed Madison Rich during the game for the number two spot on the Lady Cat all-time scoring list. Simon currently sits at 2,147 points which is 244 points away from overtaking Stephanie Dennison's record of 2,390 points. Simon currently averages 23.9 points per game which is more than the 18.8 ppg needed to overtake the all time scoring number during the remaining regular season games, assuming Simon remains healthy and eligible for the remainder of the year. Should Edmonson County win the first game of the district tournament, they would be guaranteed a minimum of two more games, which would lower Simon's points per game average requirement to 15.3 to achieve the all time scoring mark. The Lady Cats are now 12-2 on the season and are scheduled to travel to Trinity on Friday night for a girl/boy doubleheader with girls' tip off scheduled for 5:30pm. The WildcatsLive crew will not only broadcast the audio stream but will also offer the first live video stream of the game that will be broadcast on the Edmonson Voice's Facebook page.
