Darren Doyle, story Madison Doyle, photos Junior Abby Alexander got things started by nailing a three-pointer just seconds into the game and the Lady Cats never let up as they dominated the Warren East Lady Raiders on the road last night 73-39. Led by returning starters Caitlin Simon (25 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals) and Peyton Martin (22 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds), the Lady Cats forced an onslaught of Lady Raider turnovers which led to easy shots near the basket. Coming off a 36 point outburst in the season-opening win against Logan County, Simon impressed again with a complete game that had the stat keepers whispering the phrase "triple-double." She was also a sharp 8/9 from the free throw line. Martin took advantage of her quickness and ability to convert on dribble-drives, making Warren East pay at the rim. She shot an outstanding 9/11 from the field, including four 3-pointers. Junior forward Skylar Lewis was the other Lady Cat in double figures with 13 points while grabbing 5 rebounds. She connected on 3 of 5 from behind the arc.
Edmonson County jumped out to a 25-8 lead after the first and led 47-22 at the half. Several bench and reserve players saw plenty of minutes in the second half and held their own as they went on to a 34 point victory. The Lady Cats shot 56% from the field as a team. Caitlin Simon also moved into the top 5 all-time leading Lady Cat scorers during the win. Also helping the effort was freshman Emma Rose Vincent with 8 points, Abby Alexander with 3 points, and freshman Lauren Ballance had 2. The Lady Cats improve to 2-0 on the season and will take on Daviess County at home on Tuesday, December 6 in a girl/boy doubleheader.
