Darren Doyle, story and photos: The Lady Cats swept the Glasgow Lady Scotties 2-0 (25-9, 25-19) in the first official game of the season tonight at ECHS. While the team is relatively young and inexperienced, Edmonson County was able to get the first set headed in the right direction early, jumping out to a 3-0 start. After a couple of quick points from Glasgow, EC scored the next 5 to take an 8-2 lead. Edmonson County then went on a 9-3 run to extend their lead to 17-5 and Glasgow never recovered. Set number two saw a little more life from the Lady Scotties as they stayed within an arm's reach early. Edmonson County held an 8-6 lead when they went on a 10-1 run that extended the lead to 18-7, which prompted a timeout from Glasgow. The Lady Scotties held their ground out of the timeout but Edmonson County went on another run to control the score 23-15. Glasgow then caused some trouble for the Lady Cats as they scored the next five points. Head Coach Bridgett Poteet called a timeout as the Lady Scotties began their climb back as EC led 23-19. Edmonson County scored the next two points to win the set and the game, giving not only several team members their first ever varsity win, but also the first career win for Coach Poteet.
The Lady Cats are 1-0 on the season and are scheduled to take on Warren East away on Tuesday, August 7th at 5pm in a Freshman/JV/Varsity match up.
