Darren Doyle, story and photos The ECHS Lady Cat Volleyball team seemed pretty frustrated as they struggled against the Lady Eagles of Ohio County last night. If you only watched the first few minutes of the first set, you're wondering what happened as EC jumped out to a 5-0 lead, forcing Ohio County to call a timeout. Whatever was said during the timeout must have motivated the Lady Eagles, because they jumped right back into the game as they tied it at 10 all. From there, Ohio County went on a 9-5 run forcing a Lady Cat timeout, but the timeout was again effective, this time for EC as they scored the next 4 points, tying it 19-19. The Lady Cats scored three in a row and it would be all they needed to win the first set 25-23. The next set was a different story as Ohio came out strong with a 5-1 lead. Mental mistakes and miscommunication allowed Ohio County to create some space and forced Lady Cat Head Coach Brad Sullivan to call a timeout at a 13-7 Lady Eagle lead. The Lady Cats looked very solid for the next few plays, scoring three in a row, forcing an Ohio County timeout. Ohio County then went on a 10-3 run that simply had the Lady Cats out of sorts as the Lady Eagles evened the game up 1-1 with a 25-18 win. The final set was a back-and-forth match but the Lady Cats couldn't control the pace with only one lead during the entire set as Ohio took charge, winning the set 25-20 and the game, 2-1.
The Lady Cats will travel to Whitesville Trinity tonight for a district matchup. EC is now 15-9 on the year and 3-0 so far against Trinity.
