Edmonson Girls Eyeing Number One District Seed Darren Doyle, story: Madison Doyle, photos: The third time was indeed the charm in Whitesville Wednesday night as the Lady Cats defeated the Trinity Lady Raiders 51-45. It was the third try to play the game, as it had been rescheduled twice before as a result of inclement weather. Single digit temps and subzero wind chills had fans questioning whether or not this one would be played, but things worked out nicely, especially for Edmonson's Katie Lindsey, who led the Lady Cats with 17 points, and Emma Rose Vincent, who added 15 points and 14 rebounds. A solid start helped Edmonson County grab an early lead (18-11 after one quarter), which was just enough to withstand a few tough runs by Trinity and a 27-point performance by freshman Lady Raider guard Cassidy Morris. After the first quarter, Edmonson County only outscored Trinity by a single point. "Emma Rose came to play for the third straight night, man," said Coach Bart Weaver. "She's played really well, and I'll tell you what it is: it's confidence. It's her third big game in a row and she bailed us out tonight."
Weaver said he told the girls at the half (with a 27-22 lead) that it looked as though they were playing like a tired team. "In a district game, if you're tired, you've got to find something in your heart or gut to just gut it out, and I thought they did that in the second half. We've had, gosh--four games in five days? And we've got three more to go in our stretch of 7 games in 10 days. We're going to get to work on Grayson tomorrow. We're not going to go real hard, but we've got a lot of stuff to do, some preparation for them, and we'll hopefully get some rest. We've got to play better Friday night than we did tonight." In the remaining box score for the Lady Cats: Harrison 9, Ballance 4, Logsdon 3, Goad 3. A win over Grayson County on Friday will guarantee the Lady Cats the number one seed in the District 12 Tournament, which will be hosted at Edmonson County beginning February 19th. They will be a tie for number one with a loss. Edmonson County is now 16-7 on the season. The G/B doubleheader at Grayson on Friday is scheduled to tip at 6pm. You can listen to the audio and watch video stream only on the Edmonson Voice beginning at 5:50pm
