Edmonson Voice Sports:
The Edmonson County Lady Cats continued their success yesterday in a big 53-35 win over Louisville Assumption at the Bullitt East Tournament held at Mt. Washington. The victory stretches their winning streak to seven straight which is also a perfect 7-0 start to the season. The Lady Cats began the game with a 12-7 after the first quarter and slightly built a 30-23 lead at the half, but a big third quarter put the game out of reach for the Lady Rockets as Edmonson County went on to win behind the scoring effort of seniors Caitlin Simon and Peyton Martin. Simon had 27 points, which was a combination of finding success in the lane and nailing 4/7 from the three point line. She needs only 30 points to join the 2,000 point club at ECHS. Martin also was impressive as she put up 20 points and added 3 assists. She was 9 for 11 from the field, including 2 of 3 from behind the arc. The two seniors combined for all but 6 of the Lady Cats' points. Head Coach Kevin Jackson says that while he can't be more pleased with the perfect start, the next three games for the Lady Cats in the Bullitt East Tournament will be tough tests. "We could lose the next three games up here," he said, "but that will only help us down the road." While most eyes are on Simon and Martin, Jackson credits much success to team defense. "Simon and Martin are the keys to our offense, but our defense is a total team effort." The Lady Cats defense currently ranks number one in the state for the least amount of points allowed per game, which is 31.5ppg, according to KHSAA. Chanley Logsdon added 4 points along with Katlin Collins' 2 points. Edmonson County is scheduled to play Mercer County at 5pm CST Wednesday, Dec 20th.
