Lady Cats Win Big Over Jeffersontown, 62-24 Darren Doyle, story: Madison Doyle, photos: Edmonson County cruised to another big win Thursday night as they disposed of the Jeffersontown Lady Chargers 62-24 in the second round of the Rafferty's Caveland Classic at ECHS. The Lady Cats jumped out to a 15-0 lead and never looked back as Caitlin Simon led the way offensively for Edmonson County with 35 points, 3 steals, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. Peyton Martin added 10 points, 5 assists, and 6 steals, while Katlin Collins scored 10 and dished out 5 assists. The Lady Cat defense stifled the Lady Chargers and forced turnovers all night long, which led to transition buckets for Edmonson County. "I thought we played with so much energy, especially in the first half," said Head Coach Kevin Jackson. "We did it with our defense. We didn't run that many set plays, but we lowered our heads and went to the basket. When we have Simon scoring 35 points, which seems like an every-night thing, she's going to get a shot or get fouled, one of the two." Jackson said he was also proud of the Lady Cats for staying aggressive and physically tough through a contest that got heated at times.
"Our kids took it personal tonight. "This bunch was a little physical and things got a little bit ugly a time or two, but our kids take up for each other. They took it personal and man, it was fun to watch them play." Also scoring for Edmonson County was Logsdon with 3, Ballance with 2, and Lewis with 1. The Lady Cats are now 10-2 on the season and currently hold the best record in the third region. They are scheduled to take on Franklin Simpson on Friday at 5:30pm in the final round of the Classic.
