Tigers Top Cats 78-55 Darren Doyle, story: Alyssa Doyle, photos: The size of Breckinridge County caused problems for the Wildcats last night in the season opener at ECHS as Edmonson County fell to the Tigers 78-55. Breckinridge County was able to cash in on layups and easy shots in the paint as the Wildcats shot 38% from the field. Edmonson attempted more three pointers than two point field goals in the game, connecting on 9 of 24 of them. The Tigers started with a 17-10 lead and kept that pace throughout the remainder of the contest. Edmonson trailed 38-25 at the break and never seemed to have an answer for the strong inside play of the Tigers. Senior starters Dalton Decker and Mason Pierce sat out during the second quarter with early foul trouble which complicated things a bit more for Edmonson County. Decker led the Wildcats in scoring with 15 points on three 3-pointers and hitting all 6 of his free throws. Junior Gavin Rose put up 12 points off the bench. Senior Nick Clemmons connected on 3 three-pointers for 9, senior Eli Booker finished with 8, Pierce added 5 points and 5 rebounds, Trent Taylor added 3, Luke Meredith had 2, and Daniel Woosley added 1 point. "Once they got going, we didn't have any answers for them for a little while," said Head Coach Mike McClintic. "We made a couple of runs at them, very short runs, but the kids played hard. That's a good ball club we just opened up with and it was a challenge."
The boys will travel to Butler County on Friday night for the first district game of the season in a girl/boy doubleheader with girls tip off scheduled for 6pm.
