Edmonson County Dominates Russellville 16-1 Darren Doyle, story and photos: Edmonson County cruised to a big 16-1 win over the Russellville Panthers in five innings on Thursday night at home, thanks to a nine-run second inning that saw a Logan Minton home run, two doubles by Tanner Woodcock, and a slew of other hits as eleven batters came to the plate. Woodcock was in control on the mound as he went the full five innings, striking out nine while only giving up one run on three hits and one walk. He also got the job done at the plate, going 2-3 with an RBI. His two doubles came in the same inning. Russellville was plagued with errors and pitching struggles as the Wildcats took advantage of opportunities. Edmonson County racked up 15 total hits. Five players notched multiple hits in the win. Coach Bo West said that while Russellville had struggled this season, his guys put good swings on strikes, which allowed them to capitalize on Panther mistakes. West said the focus now is consistency for the remainder of the season, especially with the district tournament scheduled just a couple weeks away. "We've had a tough schedule this year and we're trying to come out each night, compete, and be consistent," he said. "We're looking for a district championship this year. It's been a long time and our schedule has been challenging. So we're working on getting these guys to compete day-to-day and I think we're starting to get there." West said the morale of the team was good and play is beginning to gel, something that will be crucial as post-season play begins.
"It can be tough when you have so many kids like we have that play basketball and they join the team later," he said. "That can put you behind as far as where you want to be as a team, but our basketball guys are really getting their arms in shape. Sometimes at this point in the season, you've got guys that are getting worn out, but that's not the case with us and that's a good thing. Hopefully, that will let us peak at the right time." Logan Lindsey went 2-4, Chaz Wilson was 1-3 with an RBI, Isaiah Johnson was 1-1 with an RBI, Tucker Cole was 1-2 with an RBI, Nick Clemmons was 2-2 with 3 RBIs, Gabe Lindsey went 1-2, Dalton Decker was 2-4 with 1 RBI, Logan Minton was 1-4 (HR) with 3 RBIs, and Preston Dunn went 2-4 with 4 RBIs. Edmonson County is now 11-9 on the season. They are 4-2 in District 12 play.
