Darren Doyle story, Madison Doyle, photos: Ohio County was able to take advantage of a rough Wildcat second half last night at the Rafferty's/Double Dog's Caveland Classic as Edmonson County fell 52-45 at ECHS. The Wildcats were outrebounded by the Eagles 27-21 and also lost in the turnover column with 23, compared to Ohio's 18. Going into the game, the Wildcats knew they'd have to find success in both areas to be able to pull out the victory, which unfortunately didn't happen. After a sluggish start, the Wildcats found success with a zone defense against Ohio County that shut down their post and paint offense and took a 27-22 lead going into the locker room at the half.
The third quarter was a repeat of the first as the Wildcats struggled to keep Ohio County off the boards and out of the paint and Edmonson County found themselves trailing 36-35 going into the fourth. Some costly turnovers down the stretch forced the Wildcats to have to foul in the last couple minutes of the game where Ohio County hit their freethrows and went on to take the game from Edmonson County 52-45. Bailey Board led the Wildcats in scoring and rebounding with 17 and 5. Caleb Skaggs was the other Wildcat in double figures with 11 points, all coming in the first half. The remaining box score was Blankenship 8, Caudill 4, Carey 3, Cole 2. The Wildcats are now 3-6 on the season and are scheduled to take on Clinton County tonight at 7:15 as the Caveland Classic continues at ECHS. WildcatsLive will air on EdmonsonVoice.com with the pregame show around 7pm.
